Quick Tips to tackle sunburn post a Beach Vacation
Sunburn. Its the worst. I know it. It puts a dampener on vacations faster than you can say “burn.”
While I could go on and on and on about the importance of making sure that you are all SPF’d up on your holiday, in this post I’m going to share my top tips for healing your angry, lobster-red skin.
Its damage-control time!
1) Draw up a cool bath: Immerse yourself in a bath with cool water to to soothe your angry, irritated skin. Avoid soap. Add apple cider vinegar or white vinegar to your bath water, they can act as additional soothers.
2) Use an aloe vera based moisturizer: My favorite moisturizer to use in case of sunburns (and otherwise) is the Venusia cream. It is chock full of aloe vera, squalane and vitamin E, all of which help heal the skin. Bonus tip: Pop your moisturizer in the fridge for 10-15 minutes for added coolness.
3) Cold compress: Use ice packs or even packets of frozen peas to provide relief to the burnt areas.
4) Protect your skin: Your skin is already sensitive and vulnerable, to protect it from further damage it is important that you keep it moisturized and protected from the sun. Slather on the moisturizer, followed by sunscreen (I use Lotus Herbals UV Screen Matte Gel SPF 50, which is quite light and soothing thanks to its gel base).
Have you ever had a sunburn? How bad was it? What did you use to try to heal it?
